Experience Details
Date Entered at Shared Experience: 01/24/2004
Cancer Type: UTERINE
Diagnosis: Endometrial cancer, Stage III (because of malignant cells in the peritoneal wash. Initial diagnosis in June of 2002, from positive results of Pap smear.
Chemo Drugs: Chemo for 3 months
Treatment: Total hysterectomy followed by 3 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy.
Quality of Life: The diagnosis felt (of course!) surreal, but I was happy to have the hysterectomy to remove the unwelcome tumor. I had enough emotional support from family and friends so that the two surgeries (a hysterectomy, and then, 4 weeks later, an exploratory surgery to look at my lymph nodes because the first surgeon failed to take any biopsies of my lymph nodes), the chemo and the loss of hair were all tolerable.

I even had good times during the cancer months....and I sure appreciate being alive now!
Information Gathering: I went to my Dr. appointments armed with my husband (to listen and remember) and my list of questions.

I read articles.

I surfed the Web for studies (sometimes horrifying to read!).
General Comments: Now I know it can happen to me. And now I understand that our tenure here is temporary. So I traveled to England for Christmas in 2003, I spend more time with my son, my husband, and my mother, I work a little less.....some of the gifts of cancer.
