Cancer Type: MOUTH
Diagnosis: My spouse was daignosed with tongue cancer, stage III. Initially, the first doctor my spouse saw told him just to take medicine for the sore on the tongue. Then the sore did not go away. My spouse waited five more months to get a second opinion, where this doctor took precautions by referring my spouse to an ENT doctor, who took a biopsy. Within three days, we found out my husband had tongue cancer. When we found out, our newborn was 2 weeks old. Yes, we just had a baby.
Chemo Drugs: No chemo drugs used. Radiation was used for 37 treatments.
Treatment: Tongue surgery to remove cancer. 37 treatments of radiation therapy.
Quality of Life: What quality of life? The radiation did a lot of damage to the mouth area. Spouse unable to eat, just liquid. Spouse use to weigh 205, now weighs 140 lbs. I am worried that the nutrition is lacking and other problems will occur. We are very young, in our 20's. When will the quality of life improve? I don't know. Its been a while.
Information Gathering: Internet, doctors, literature
