Cancer Type: THROAT
Diagnosis: Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus
Chemo Drugs: Adriamycin,Mitomycin Five Fluorouracil ,
Treatment: Surgery:Excision of large portionof esophagus,upper stomach',Spleen fortysome nodes.Attachment of piece of colon from lower stomach to upper esophagus. A 10 hr procedure.
Quality of Life: Fine except for some gastro-intestinal problems which I have lived with 14 yrs after the surgery. I have lived anormal life.
Information Gathering: I am anewly retired Ob-Gyn Physcian so I sought information from Thoracic surgeons and General surgeons as to what should be done since the textbooks were saying only 5% survival rate no matter what was done.I was given 50% survival rate after the surgery.
General Comments: Iwas supposed to have radiation as well as chemo, but I refused because I was afraid I would get radiation damage to the piece of bowel that I swallow through or to the lungs.
