Cancer Type: MOUTH
Diagnosis: My husband was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 1997. The only thing he can eat must be blended to a smooth consistency, and even then he constantly chokes and coughs to avoid the liquid from going down his airway. Everywhere he goes people think he's retarded and it makes him feel very alienated.
Chemo Drugs:
Treatment: He had most of his tongue removed and they used abdominal tissue to rebuild it (now it's called a flap). Months of speech and swallowing therapy ensued the surgery.
Quality of Life: The only thing he can eat must be blended to a smooth consistency, and even then he constantly chokes and coughs to avoid the liquid from going down his airway. Everywhere he goes people think he's retarded and it makes him feel very alienated.
Information Gathering:
General Comments: He would like to be able to communicate with people in similar situations or anyone interested in communicating with him.
